Chandigarh: Two bags containing cash, documents and other valuables were stolen from a car parked near the stairs number two of Sukhna Lake.



Chandigarh: Two bags containing cash, documents and other valuables were stolen from a car parked near the stairs number two of Sukhna Lake. Complainant Gopal Singh, a native of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, told the police that he and his friends went to the lake after parking his car. On returning after 30 minutes, the complainant found that one of the doors of the car was open and two bags containing an ATM card, driving license, registration certificate of car, Rs 2,500 cash and mobile phones were stolen. The incident took place on Saturday night. A case has been registered. TNS

Decomposed body found

Chandigarh:  A decomposed body was found at the scrap market in Dhanas on Monday afternoon. The police received information about the body lying in a godown at the scrap market at 1.30 pm. The police said the victim had been identified as Raghu Nath (50), a native of Uttar Pradesh, who worked at a scrap shop in Dhanas. He was missing for the past 10 days. The body was shifted to the mortuary of the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16. A post-mortem will be conducted on Tuesday. The police have ruled-out any foul play in the incident. Road mishap victim dies

Mohali: A 58-year-old retired government employee succumbed to his injuries after being hit in  an accident on June 9. Bhopal Singh Rawat, a former clerk, had met with an accident at the Kumbra light point. His car, which was being driven by his son, was hit by a cab. The cab driver, identified as Namanpreet Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib, has been booked under Sections 279, 337,427 and 304 of the IPC. Rawat was on his way to Mani Majra from Sector 71, when the accident took place. TNS

Abetment of suicide:  2 booked 

Mohali: The body of a 33-year-old businessman was found from a canal in Ropar on Monday. The police have booked two women for abetment of suicide. The victim has been identified as Satinder Singh, a resident of Phase VII, Mohali. As per the police, the accused, Kirendeep Kaur and her mother Kulbir Kaur, residents of Verka village in Amritsar, were blackmailing him. The police informed that the victim had left his house on June 5 and did not return. Following this, his wife lodged a complaint with the Mataur police station and a case was registered. On Monday, the police received information that an unidentified dead body was found from the canal in Ropar. TNS   

Two suicides in Panchkula

Panchkula: Two suicides were reported in Panchkula on Monday. In the first case, a 24-year-old youth committed suicide at his house in Bhainsa Tibba, Mansa Devi Complex, here. The police said Pankaj committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. He is survived by a son and wife who were not at home when the incident took place. The police said during the post-mortem, it was found that the victim was drunk last night. No suicide note has been found and the reason behind the suicide is unknown, claim the police. In another case, an 18-year-old committed suicide at his house in Sector 15. The police said the deceased, identified as Aakash, worked as a worker in a factory here and committed suicide when no one else was at home. Sources said the deceased had told her younger sisters that he was committing suicide. He was in depression from pasts several days. TNS 

3 booked for failing to get tenants verified 

Zirakpur: The Zirakpur police here on Monday booked three landlords under Section 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. The police have already booked 20 landlords so far for violating norms by not conducting police verification of their tenants. The police said they got a tip-off that Shane Amley of Palm Enclave, Zirakpur, and Monu, a resident of Chandigarh, and an unidentified person had rented out their property and had failed to comply with the tenant verification rules. A case has been registered. — OC

One hurt in road accident

Dera Bassi: A major tragedy was averted on Dera Bassi flyover when a Baleno car in a bid to overtake another vehicle, hit the sugarcane cart here on Monday. Cart owner Gopal, a resident of Sundran village, sustained injuries and was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. The car was reportedly driven by a woman, who escaped unhurt. The police said the incident happened on Monday evening when a Baleno car, which was coming from Ambala side, reportedly hit the cart on the Ambala-Chandigarh stretch on Dera Bassi flyover. The cart overturned and hit the boundary wall of the flyover. Further investigations are on. OC

Thieves decamp with valuables

Dera Bassi: A theft was reported from a house in College Colony, Dera Bassi, in which miscreants made away with valuables. Owner Naresh Kaushik told the police that he along with his family had gone out of city to meet their relatives. When they returned home on Monday, they found the locks of their house broke open and things scattered here and there. The police reached the spot and investigations were on. OC

Body found from Ghaggar

Dera Bassi: The Dera Bassi police recovered the body of an unidentified man from the Ghaggar at the back of Chhat village on Monday. The police said owing to the poor condition of the body, it could not be identified. The police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for identification for next 72 hours. The Dera Bassi police added that the body was found in a decomposed state with no identification document due to which it could not be identified by them. They have not ruled out the foul play but said prima facia it seemed to be a case of death due to drowning. There was no external injury mark on the body, said the local police. OC
