Chandigarh, April 20

A local court sentenced two persons to two-year jail in a case of sexually assaulting a girl on Friday. The duo was held guilty under Sections 354 and 324 of the Indian penal Code (IPC).

The convicts are identified as Raj Kumar, alias Gabbar, and Pooran Kumar, alias Prachi, both residents of Ram Darbar. They have also been directed to pay Rs 16,000 each as fine.

As per the victim’s complaint, on October 7, 2015, she was going home when both convicts attacked her. Initially, they blocked her way and later teased her and started molesting her. She cried for help but people gathered around and did not help her.

She later stated that the accused tore her clothes and also attempted to rape her.

When she tried to resist, she was thrashed and as a result, her nose started bleeding. It was also mentioned in the complaint, that the accused snatched her gold chain as well before fleeing from the spot. She claimed that they were influential people of the area and, hence, no one came forward to help her.

The defence counsel, however, argued that they were falsely implicated. After hearing the arguments, the court had held both of them guilty.
