Panchkula, June 20

While the police is yet to crack the case in which under trial Deepak Kumar escaped from a Panchkula hospital, it has now come to fore that Deepak was in touch with gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra through mobile phone.

Sources added that Deepak was even using mobile phone from Ambala Jail. While Bishnoi is heading the-Lawrence Bishoni Gang-Deepak Kumar and Sampat Nehra, are key members of the gang. On January 17, 2015, eight people freed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while he was returning to Ropar Jail from a court hearing in Abohar. He was arrested later. Recently, he was taken on production warrant by the Rajasthan police in connection with a firing incident.

The Panchkula police have found Whatsapp messages exchanged between them from the mobile phone. The smart phone had fallen down when constable Rakesh had tried to stop these criminals on June 17.

Lawrence Bishnoi and Vicky Gounder, another Punjab-based gangster, who has been on the run since the Moga jailbreak in February 2017, are arch rivals.

A senior Panchkula police official said, "Both these gangs are increasing their strengths and there are chances that clash between members of these two gangs can take place inside or outside the jails."

Probe begins on role of Ambala jail staff

The Panchkula police on Tuesday questioned the doctor of Ambala Jail and checked the visitors’ register of Ambala Jail of last six months. The dentist of Ambala Jail had suggested an immediate MRI for the accused Deepak despite the fact that he was already receiving treatment at the PGI. A senior Panchkula police official said that they checked the entries of people who met Deepak in the last six months. They also questioned the doctor as the way Deepak ran from police custody and jumped off the hospital wall shows that there was no sign of pain

in his knees. Besides, Dr Harish Kumar, Additional Inspector General of Prisons, will start his probe after completion of the Panchkula police inquiry. KP Singh, Director General of Police (Prisons), had asked Dr Harish Kumar to submit a report on lapses, if any, on the part of the Ambala Jail staff.
