The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Kirpal Singh Badungar on Friday said the Centre had always discriminated against the Sikh community. He was here at Panth Ratan Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute of Advanced Studies in Sikhism to chair the meeting of the education committee of the SGPC.
“Right from the Independence of the country, the Union Government has never tried to provide any relief to the Sikhs,” said the SGPC chief.
He added that though the Centre had formed the National Commission for Minorities and appointed representatives from almost all minorities to it, the government had not appointed any Sikh as its member.
“Due to the discriminatory attitude of the Centre, the Sikhs are feeling insecure in the country,” Badungar said. He added that though former Vice-President Hamid Ansari had highlighted the issue of insecurity among minorities in the country, he had never shown seriousness to resolve issues of the Sikhs.
The SGPC chief also highlighted the issue of the imposition of the GST on langar and claimed that PM Narendra Modi had done nothing to exempt the charitable institutions from the GST.
