The UT police have prepared a list of cops whose efforts had led to the arrest of the three accused in the 22-year-old’s gang-rape case. The police personnel will now be rewarded as per their role in the arrests.
“Those who had significant role in nabbing the accused will be rewarded accordingly,” said a police official.
A team led by Inspector Ranjodh Singh, SHO of the Sector 49 police station, was instrumental in identifying the auto driver, Mohammad Irfan, and arresting him. Another team led by Inspector Ram Rattan, SHO, Maloya police station, had conducted raids in Uttar Pradesh leading to the arrest of the remaining two accused, whose names were revealed by the auto driver.
On November 17, the victim, a native of Dehradun, had hired an auto from Sector 37 for Mohali. The auto already had two male occupants known to the driver. The auto was driven to a forest area in Sector 53 where the trio gangraped her.
Making no headway in the case, the police announced out of turn promotion to the cop who cracked the case and arrested the accused.
