UT to increase road tax on vehicles by 2%

CHANDIGARH:The Transport Department of the UT Administration is considering increasing road tax on commercial and private vehicles.

The Transport Department of the UT Administration is considering increasing road tax on commercial and private vehicles.

Sources said the proposal had been discussed in the meeting of senior officers of the Administration.

According to the sources, the increase has been proposed up to 2 per cent over the existing slabs of the road tax.

At present, the Transport Department is charging 6 per cent of the price of the vehicles costing below Rs 20 lakh while 8 percent of the vehicles costing more than Rs 20 lakh.

An officer of the department said the proposal had been made to bring the taxes on a par with the neighbouring states.
