Patiala, February 14

Three persons, along with a few unidentified others, have been booked for hurting religious sentiments after a video in which people distributing wine in the open during a procession on Mahashivaratri went viral yesterday.

Various organisations accused the police of inaction in the case. The accused, who were seen distributing and consuming wine in the video near A-tank at Kila Chowk, were booked.

Rahul Kaushal, SHO of the Kotwali police station, today said the police acted immediately after getting information. On the basis of complaint filed by Ashutosh Gautam, leader of the Hindu Suraksha Samiti, a case under Section 295-A (Malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the IPC and Section 61 of the Excise Act was registered against Somnath Tondon, Gurwinder Pal Suri, alias Minta, and Bandish Grover, alias Lucky, and some other unidentified persons, the SHO added.

The police said raids were conducted at the houses of the accused, who were on the run. — TNS
