The Punjab State Commission for Women has sought a free and fair investigation into the alleged assault case of a two women by cops at Baltana chowki on Wednesday night. The victim’s kin also sought the transfer of the chowki in-charge at the earliest.

Paramjeet Kaur Landran, Chairperson, State Women Commission, in a letter to the Punjab DGP, has asked him to conduct a quick, immediate, fair and free investigation into the case.

The issue of cops hurling abuses at 46-year-old woman and her daughter-in-law and also using foul language has also been raised by local MLA NK Sharma and Paramjeet Kaur Landran, Chairman, Punjab State Commission for Women (PSCW), who in a statement had demanded strict action against the erring cops. She had also offered legal and other help to the victims.

Salma and her daughter-in-law Nazrana were allegedly beaten, thrashed and even kicked in the stomach by the chowki in-charge and two other constables here on Wednesday night.

Salma, along with her daughter-in-law Nazrana, had gone to the police chowki to inquire about his son who was detained by the Baltana police.

Salma alleged that she was subjected to cruelty and sexual harassment at the hands of the policemen. She alleged that the Baltana chowki in-charge used abusive words against her and her daughter-in-law within the police chowki in the presence of other on-duty staff. The matter is still under investigation.

Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal has marked a magisterial inquiry into the case.
