Chandigarh, May 21

A 21-year-old youth, a resident of Delhi, was arrested by the Chandigarh Police today for posing as an official of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a bid to rent a room at the UT Guest House. The accused had arrived in the city to appear for the BA LLB entrance exam conducted by Panjab University (PU).

The police said the accused had been identified as Mohik Singh, a resident of Rohini, Sector 18, Delhi.

The accused had sent an email to the Deputy Commissioner's office a few days ago for booking a room posing as an official of the Ministry of External Affairs. The email was forwarded to the UT Guest House. The police said the accused arrived this morning and showed an ID card claiming to be an official.

The staff at the UT Guest House got suspicious and informed the police. Sources said the email sent by the accused had a few mistakes that also raised suspicion.

A police team reached the spot and questioned the youth. “On verifying the ID card, it was found to be fake,” said a police official. The accused was arrested and a case registered against him at the Sector 3 police station. The police said the antecedents of the accused were being verified.
