3-year-old girl drowns to death

NEW DELHI:In a tragic incident in Sangam Vihar, South Delhi, today a three-year-old girl, Alfia, died after drowning in an underground tank.

In a tragic incident in Sangam Vihar, South Delhi, today a three-year-old girl, Alfia, died after drowning in an underground tank.

Around 2.50 pm the police received a call regarding a three-year-old girl went missing from JJ colony, Tigri.

Thereafter, at 3.15 pm, information was received from Batra Hospital official at the Sangam Vihar Police Station that a girl was brought dead to the hospital.

The police enquiry revealed that the girl was drowned in an underground tank in the neighbour.

An official at Batra Hospital said, “Some people brought a small girl wrapped in a towel to the hospital. She was taken to ICU, but after examination doctors declared her bought dead. Further details regarding the reason of the death could only be found after the autopsy report.”

According to  victim’s a neighbour said, “Most of the residents of the area have water reservoirs in the capacity of 10,000 litre or more in their houses due to water scarcity in the whole area. This is illegal and dangerous. And, this not the first time that such incident has occurred, many a times infants while playing have fallen in these water tanks and have lost their lives.”

The police have ruled out any foul play regarding the incident. But these huge water tanks are a matter of great concern because firstly it is dangerous secondly, it is a health hazard because these are not covered, said a senior police official.
