New Delhi, January 16

The two-day Winter Session of Delhi Assembly beginning tomorrow is likely to see attacks and counters attacks between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the Opposition MLAs over the strike by East Delhi civic body, functioning of the BJP-ruled MCD and the government not inviting new Lt Governor Anil Baijal to address the House, among others.

The Opposition leader from BJP in the Assembly, Vijender Gupta, raised the issue of invitation to the L-G, but Speaker Ram Niwas Goel slammed him, saying the BJP leader deliberately wants to stoke controversy, saying tomorrow’s session is just a continuation of the ongoing session and not a new one.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who today returned to Delhi after campaigning in poll-bound Punjab, may also attend the House proceedings.

It is learnt that no new Bill is going to be taken up during the session and the final agenda is will be decided in a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of Delhi Assembly tomorrow.

The AAP is going to train its guns on the BJP on the issue of sanitation workers' strike due to non-payment of their salaries and demonetisation, among others.

According to Gupta, not inviting the LG to address the Delhi Legislative Assembly amounts to “dishonouring” his office as stated by Section 19 (1) of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Rules.
