New Delhi, February 15

On the pattern of developed countries, now in Delhi also, the controlling of traffic signals will be operated by automatic cameras.

These cameras will not only keep an eye on the people violating the traffic, but will also prepare record of width of the road, size of the vehicles, line and their number for free flow of traffic.

To give real-time information to the drivers, the cameras and the traffic signals will be connected to the control room through internet.

On all the signals connected with a junction on all the routes according to the number vehicles, the signal will turn ‘green and red’. During trial, the control room will operate the signal. Thereafter, as per the number of the vehicles, the timings of the signal will be fixed.

Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police, Garima Bhatnagar said that under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), first the main routes had 500 automatic camera installation program. Later, the decision is taken to install cameras on all junctions (1000). This plan has been sent to Detailed Project Report (DPR) Home Ministry.

By the help of these cameras, the drivers will get information of a particular area without any delay of all the routes. No sooner, the information received will be conveyed to the vehicle operators through Google Map Network, Traffic Police Facebook, Twitter and websites.

With time in hand, the vehicle operators will know about jams, heavy traffic and route diversion. This will save them from unwanted problems. In the later stage, these cameras will fully operate the control of traffic signals. The work on this plan will start within two-three months.

These cameras will not only manage traffic, but keep an eye on red light jumping, lane violation, wrong parking and stop-line crossing types of traffic violations.
