BJP councillors demand DFC-recommended funds

BJP councillors led by one of their seniormost councillors, Subhash Arya, demonstrated near the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding release of municipal funds recommended by the Fourth Delhi Finance Commission.

The councillors wanted to meet the Chief Minister. When they were denied entry inside the residence, the councillors sat on dharna at the entrance gate demanding to know if the Chief Minister is out of town.

 They wanted that some other minister or senior official should meet them regarding their demand of immediate release of municipal funds so that the civic bodies can ensure proper sanitation, primary health and education services, run maintenance work on roads, parks and drains.

After around 45 minutes of demonstration, the police arrested the councillors from the gate of CM’s residence and took them away to the Maurice Nagar Operation Cell police station.

BJP president Manoj Tiwari has said that it is strange that today when Delhi faces a sanitation and primary health crisis, the Chief Minister is evading responsibility towards the citizens. He is busy campaigning in Punjab, the BJP president said.

He said that the High Court and NGT are concerned about the citizens, but the unconcerned Chief Minister continues to be busy expanding political base at the cost of Delhi.

Responsibility towards the citizens demanded that Kejriwal should have directed one of his ministers to meet the councillors raising the rightful voice of civic bodies, Tiwari said.
