NEW DELHI:Delhi recorded its lowest ever power cuts in the current financial year even as the peak power demand has been rising in the recent years with highest ever seen this fiscal.

New Delhi, February 18

Delhi recorded its lowest ever power cuts in the current financial year even as the peak power demand  has been rising in the recent years with highest ever seen this fiscal.

During an event on the Aam Aadmi Party government’s anniversary, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said the power cuts in the city have come down as compared to previous years due to improved electricity supply and transmission system.

Going by Delhi government data, the Capital witnessed lowest ever load shedding in 2017-18 at 0.06 per cent, almost six times less than 0.4 per cent witnessed in 2014-15.

Since 2014-15, the power cuts’ percentage has been continuously dropping. From 0.4 per cent in the same year, it reduced to 0.14 per cent in 2015-16 followed by 0.1 per cent in 2016-17 and 0.06 per cent in 2017-18, as per the government.

However, the city’s peak power demand climbed to highest ever 6526 MW on June 6, 2017 indicating at an improved power distribution and transmission system in the Capital, as per the discoms. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and BSES Yamuna Power Limited together supply electricity to nearly two-third area of the Capital. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited supplies electricity to north and north-west Delhi.

They attributed the reduction in load shedding to coordination among various stakeholders, deployment of quick response teams, strengthened network capacity, use of latest technology and adequate power purchase agreements to meet the city’s electricity demand. — TNS
