DCW chief meets Prez over women safety

NEW DELHI:The Delhi Commission for Woman Chairperson, Swati Maliwal Jiahind today met President Ram Nath Kovind briefing him on issues of women safety, growing menace of illegal drugs and liquor being sold in the capital.

The Delhi Commission for Woman Chairperson, Swati Maliwal Jiahind today met President Ram Nath Kovind briefing him on issues of women safety, growing menace of illegal drugs and liquor being sold in the capital.

Maliwal urged the President to help the commission for getting her demands accepted by the Central Government. Her demands are including a high-level committee should be constituted in the capital consisting of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Police Commissioner and DCW chairperson, sources said.

The committee should meet, at least, twice a month and take decisive steps to improve women safety in the capital and crack on the illegal sale of liquor and drugs, the sources added.

She also demanded a strong law in the country to deter rape cases of children.

She said, "Like the law recently passed in Madhya Pradesh, a law should be passed by the Parliament for the country which should ensure rapists of children a death penalty."

The sources said the DCW chief also informed the president that drugs and liquor were being sold openly in remote areas of the city.
