New Delhi, March 26

In a shift from its traditional gesture, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Mangament Committee (DSGMC) today greeted Akal Takth Sahib jathedar and other guests participating in the two-day “Delhi Fateh Divas” here with mementoes and set of books in place of siropa (religious honour).

In this regard, a decision was taken in a recently called meeting by the DSGMC to ensure that the practice is discontinued. According to DSGMC president Manjeet Singh GK distributing siropa in such a way is “disrespect” to it and the religious sentiment of the community.

A event was supposed to be held at Red Fort to mark the 234th anniversary of Delhi victory under the leadership of Sikh marshals Baba Baghel Singh, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Jassa Singh Ramgarhia, Tara Singh Gheba and Mahan Singh Shukarchakia.
