New Delhi, May 20

Taking charge as the new Water Minister, Rajendra Pal Gautam today conducted a surprise inspection of two zonal offices in the wake of complaints over inflated billing and threats from water meter readers to residents.

Giving a clear message of “zero tolerance” to corruption, Gautam ordered an enquiry into the sudden complaints of alleged faulty water bills before and after elections in GTB Enclave, Dilshad Garden and Yamuna Vihar.

The minister, who held his first meeting with top officials of the department, said he sought a report from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Chief Executive Officer suspecting a political hand in the matter.  DJB vice-chairman Dinesh Mohania was also present in the meeting.
