New Delhi, December 5

In order to meet the teacher-pupil ratio mandated under the Right to Education Act, the Delhi Government has decided to create 9,623 additional teaching posts for its schools across the national Capital.

The move will result in an annual expenditure of around Rs 540 crore.

During the current fiscal, Rs 666 crore had been provided by the government to meet the likely expenditure on account of existing as well as newly created posts.

Sharing the information, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted: “The recruitment will be done through an online test to be conducted by the Government of India enterprise EdCIL —- a public sector unit with a proven track record.”

Candidates who have worked as guest teachers and contract teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) may be given age relaxation and weightage, provided they fulfil the terms and conditions laid down by the Supreme Court in the case of State of Karnataka and others versus Umadevi and others (civil 3595-3612 of 1999).

The posts sanctioned by the Cabinet include principal (25), vice-principal (365), PGT (4,940), TGT(2,933), physical education teacher (860), drawing teacher (256), librarian (38) and lab assistant (206).

The Educational Consultant India Limited (EdCIL) under the Union ministry of Human Resource Development will be asked to conduct an online recruitment test to expedite the recruitment process, the minister said.

The entire recruitment process will be held by the Directorate of Education and EdCIL will provide the backend support as service provider.

The online test will be held in institutions/colleges having sufficient number of functional computer systems and necessary infrastructure, Sisodia said.

The responsibility for identification of appropriate and requisite number of test centres solely rests with EdCIL, he said.

As Delhi does not have adequate computer equipped institutions, the test centres will also be made in the NCR. For this additional manpower will be required, for which approval from the competent authority will be sought at an appropriate stage, said a senior official.
