A recent directive from Dyal Singh College’s Governing Body chairperson Amitabh Sinha that appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff be carried out with his approval has raised many eyebrows.

The order under question, which smacks of “favouritism and nepotism” as per the senior faculty of the Delhi University, claimed that there were “anomalies” in the recently carried out appointment process of ad hoc and guest faculty in the college’s commerce department.

In the process, sources said, the GB chairperson, a Supreme Court lawyer and national executive committee member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, “overturned” the decision of the department’s selection committee of appointment to an ad hoc teaching post under the OBC category.

In his communication to Dyal Singh College (morning) principal Dr Inderjeet S. Bakshi, Sinha has not only objected to the “unanimous” decision of the commerce department’s selection committee of choosing a candidate  under the OBC category but also suggested the appointments be “reversed”.

Sinha rejected the allegations saying his move came after he received a complaint from the guest teacher who alleged bias in selection. “I did what I thought is in the best interest of students and college. There is a section of teachers who are trying to malign me due to the bifurcation of the Dyal Singh College," the GB chairperson said.
