Hotelier held for selling holiday tour dreams

NEW DELHI:The Delhi Police has arrested the fugitive director of Sunstar Club and Goodluck Hotels Private Limited from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for cheating thousands of people on pretext of providing luxurious holiday tour packages in five star hotels.

The Delhi Police has arrested the fugitive director of Sunstar Club and Goodluck Hotels Private Limited from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for cheating thousands of people on pretext of providing luxurious holiday tour packages in five star hotels.

The accused, Raman Kapoor, along with his wife and other associates, lured people for free dinner in five star hotels and then sold them membership by promising attractive offer of 12 nights free holiday tour packages annually in hotels with air tickets for 20 years, a police official said.

The police said the Sun Star has tie-ups with various five star hotels at all prime tourist locations in India and abroad like JW Marriot (Mumbai), Courtyard (Ahmedabad and Lucknow), Le Meridien (Delhi and Chennai), ITC Welcome (Dwarka, Delhi), Leela Ambience Hotel (Delhi) and Four Points by Sheraton (Vadodara).

The accused also told the members that if they discontinue their membership on their 10th or 20th year, they will get the entire membership amount back.

During interrogation, the accused said he was a graduate in hotel management and had worked as channel partner in Club Mahindra Holidays Company. He left the company and entered into business of land development and opened his own company by the name of Saturn Infrastructure Private Limited and sold plots in the areas of Bagodara, Ahemdabad.

In 2016, he launched his present business of holiday tour packages by the name of Sunstar Club and Goodluck Hotel Pvt. Ltd. in which around 2,000 members have joined till date. The idea was to give 12 nights holiday package annually to the members of the club. In case, the members did not avail themselves of the facility, the company would remit Rs 2,000 for each holiday.

Bank accounts of the company have been traced and frozen, the official said.
