Hussain reviews wildlife bird project

Environment Minister Imran Hussain today reviewed the progress of proposed Wildlife Bird Rescue Centre at Rajokri, a centre touted to be of world-class level.

The project, which is being developed with technical support from the Public Works Department (PWD), is commissioned at a cost of Rs 9 crore.

The government has expressed serious concerns on smuggling of wild birds like owl and other endangered species while pointing out that Delhi is an alleged grey market of wildlife birds.

The proposed centre shall provide veterinary facilities for medical improvement and health rejuvenation of injured and captured birds.

Hussain observed that the area housing the Bird Rescue Centre should have dense tree cover to ensure that temperature variations between day and night does not affect the health of rescued birds.
