N Delhi mayor appeals to people to not relieve in open

NEW DELHI: In line with the Swachh Bharat Mission, North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta today appealed to people to not urinate or defecate in the open and use public conveniences instead to respond to nature''s call.

New Delhi, June 17

In line with the Swachh Bharat Mission, North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta today appealed to people to not urinate or defecate in the open and use public conveniences instead to respond to nature's call.

Ironically, even after the NDMC had declared all its 104 wards "open-defecation free" on December 31, people have been relieving themselves in the open.

Gupta said information related to all the toilets located in the NDMC's areas has been uploaded on Google Maps and residents should locate nearby public convenience for usage and give their feedback.

"The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has adequate number of community and public toilets as per the yardstick of the Swachh Bharat Mission. People should not urinate or defecate in the open so as to maintain the area as ODF," the mayor was quoted as saying in a statement by the NDMC.

From time-to-time as per fresh requirement, the NDMC constructs new toilets, he said.  Awareness campaigns are being run by the corporation to ensure usage of toilets and bring a behavioural change among general public regarding sanitation. — PTI
