Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today expressed his desire to meet the newly elected Mayors of all three Municipal Corporations of Delhi to have a detailed discussion on issues related to sanitation in the national Capital.

He brought up this issue during a meeting with the Mayor of North MCD, Preeti Aggarwal, held today in Nirman Bhawan. The Mayor pointed out financial and other constraints being faced by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in maintaining the sanitation.

She elaborated on the efforts initiated to improve the revenue of the urban local body like development of municipal land and properties. She also mentioned steps such as ward-level surveys of properties, issuing of unique ID numbers and cluster-wise advertisement policy.

The Mayor brought forward the issue of shortage of land available for garbage disposal.

“The MCD would like to focus more on solid waste management approach through waste to energy plants and waste recycling to minimize the quantum of garbage disposal.

The overflowing Bhalswa landfill needs immediate attention,” the Mayor said.

Stressing the need of improvement in the sanitation of the national Capital, Naidu said he would like to soon have a detailed discussion on this issue with all the three MCD Mayors.

The Union minister wants to evolve a road map that ensures total sanitation in the city.
