Union ministers Prakash Javadekar and Harsh Vardhan today joined the BJP workers at a Shramdaan held in Yamuna Ghat at ITO under Swachh Yamuna Mission. Shramdaan was held on the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Javadekar said that it is a responsibility of every citizen to keep the country clean and contribute to the cause of fight against pollution, be it air or water pollution.

Delhi BJP affairs In-charge Shyam Jaju lauded the effort of Delhi BJP for cleaning the Yamuna and announced that every district unit of Delhi BJP would dedicate one day every month for the cause of cleaning the river bed.

BJP president Satish Upadhyay said that to make all the rivers clean and integrate had been a dream project of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and so "we thought there could not be a better way to celebrate his birthday than to work on his dream project of cleaning river bed".

He said that the BJP would make the 'Clean Yamuna' a sustained effort and apart from party workers, the three municipal corporations would contribute to Swachh Yamuna Mission.

Around 1,000 BJP workers took part in today's Shramdaan bringing out over 10 truckloads of silt from the Yamuna bed near ITO which was removed with the cooperation of East Delhi Municipal Corporation. 

The Ghat was divided into 14 sections. Each one was taken up by the workers of one district. The BJP has 14 district units in Delhi.

After the completion of Shramdaan, BJP workers performed Yamuna Arti with the recitation of mantras.

Prominent amongst those who participated in the Shramdaan were Delhi BJP leaders and MPs Ramesh Bidhuri, Meenakshi Lekhi, Manoj Tiwari, and others. Members of Dharm Yatra Sangh and Chhath Puja Samitti too joined the BJP workers in the mission.
