New Delhi, August 14

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president, Ajay Maken said the Tricolour reminds him the sacrifices and struggles made by the Congress leaders for the independence of the country. They also sacrificed their lives to maintain unity and integrity of the country.

Hoisting the Tricolour at the DPCC headquarters, Maken said the first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi and former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the country.

Addressing the party workers after the flag-hoisting ceremony, Maken said India attained fast development during the past 70 years, whether it was the launch of Mangalyaan (Mars Orbit Mission) or to make India the fourth largest military power in the world. All these landmark achievements happened during the Congress rule in the country. During the Congress rule, the “roti, kapda aur makaan” of the common people were safe.

He said Aruna Asaf Ali was made the first president of the DPCC because she had hoisted the Tricolour at the August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai on August 9, 1942, to join the Quit India movement.

The DPCC president said the party leaders had given the message to maintain the unity and integrity of the country, and to uphold the dignity of the Tricolour. The Congress party will not allow brothers to fight among themselves.
