New Delhi, June 21

Police have arrested Ashwani Kumar (24), a software engineer, along with his woman friend, for duping people on the pretext of providing loans. With their arrest 51 cancelled cheques, 108 payee cheques of worth Rs 6,83,201, 14 walkie-talkies and 20 SIM cards have been recovered from them, said a police official.

On June 17, Nazim Hussain lodged a complaint that around one month ago he received a call and the caller introduced herself from the loan department of a bank. She lured him to provide loan at very low interest rates and sent her executive who collected his documents and two cheques.

After encashing the cheques they did not contact him again and also not answered his phone calls.

Getting suspicious, the complainant visited the bank where he came to know that he had been duped. He approached the police and a case was registered in the Punjabi Bagh Police Station.

During course of investigation, the receipt provided by them to the complainant was collected and the CDRs of the mobile numbers from which the complainant received the calls were obtained and analyzed.

Raids were conducted and Ashwani Kumar was arrested from Pitampura on June 17. On sustained interrogation, Kumar said he used to work in an MNC call centre from where he derived this idea of cheating. He hired 10 tele callers who induce customers on the pretext of providing loans.

After collecting the payments, they blocked the contact number of the callers and thus cheat them.

Kumar has opened a company in the name of “We Spot Credit Services”.

The bank accounts have been freezed and found Rs 1,11,200 in the said accounts. On scrutiny of records, it has been revealed that they have cheated 519 persons in four months. The woman accused has also been arrested and sent to the judicial custody. All the tele callers have been traced and their role is being verified. Further raids are being  conducted to arrest the absconding collection agents, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar (West District).
