Activists of the Contractual Employees Action Committee, who have been waiting to meet the Chief Minister (CM) for the past 11 months, today started a novel way of protest against the government for not allowing them to have a meeting with the CM.

Starting the “Mukh Mantri Milao Inam Pao” (arrange our meet with the CM and get rewarded) scheme here today, the employees said while it’s been 11 months since the Congress government came to power, leave alone fulfilling its promises to employees, the government hadn’t even yet granted a meeting with any of the employees.

Employees of the union today gathered at the local Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall Jalandhar, raising slogans against the state government.

Following this, they traversed the city streets, distributing the scheme pamphlets to residents. Activists said whoever would arrange a meeting of theirs with the CM, would be amply rewarded. Announcing novel rewards for anyone who would manage the feat, the employees declared that anyone arranging their meeting with the CM would be rewarded 21 days’ daily labour by 21 employees. In case of their meeting being arranged with Sunil Jakhar, they would reward the person with 11 days’ daily labour by 11 employees. And announcing the special prize for anyone arranging their meeting with Congress president Rahul Gandhi, they said the persons would be rewarded 51 contractual employees, giving them their one-day salary.

Employee leaders Ashish Julaha, Rakesh Kumar, Sajjan Singh, Gagan Sharma, Ramesh Kumar, among others, said the Congress CM hadn’t been able to spare a single moment to grant a meeting with the employees, that is why they had to launch this scheme under compulsion today. Reiterating their stand on undertaking the struggle, they said they would be holding protest continually until the Congress government granted them the meeting.

They said they would be distributing pamphlets in each street and locality of the state until their demands were met. — TNS
