1,731 cases disposed of at National Lok Adalat

JALANDHAR: As many as 1,731 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat organised at the District Judicial Complex here today.

As many as 1,731 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat organised at the District Judicial Complex here today.

Divulging the details, District and Session Judge Sanjeev Kumar Garg, chairman, District Legal Services Authority, said 17 bench were constituted for pending and pre-litigative cases in Jalandhar besides one each in Phillaur and Nakodar. He said 14,098 cases were listed for hearing before the 19 benches out of which 1,731 were solved on the spot. Garg said that these cases were mostly regarding disputes related to marriage, banks and other institutions.

The District and Session Judge said that 1,731 cases were resolved on the spot and compensation worth Rs 14.19 crore was settled during the lok adalats. He said that people could approach him or secretary of the District Legal Services Authority or the concerned courts for the settlement of cases through lok adalats. Garg said the decision of Lok Adalat was final that could not be challenged further. Lok adalats were instrumental in saving time and money of the people besides promoting harmony, he added.

On the occasion, Civil Judge (senior division)-cum-secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar, Gurmeet Tiwana said people could also get their cases resolved through the mediation centre in the District Judicial Complex. He further said that people also could approach the front office of the authority in the court complex for free legal aid.

997 cases settled in Nawanshahr

As many as 997 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held at Judicial Courts Nawanshahar and Blachaur today. A total of 1,255 cases, including criminal compoundable cases, cases under Negotiable Instruments Act under Section 138, matrimonial disputes, labour, bank recovery, debt recovery and pre-litigation cases were taken up. Parinder Singh, secretary, District Legal Services Authority, and Chief Judicial Magistrate, said nine benches were set up in Nawanshahr and Balachaur. AS Grewal, District and Sessions Judge-cum-chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), while inspecting various benches, said lok adalats not only settle the issues amicably, but also save time and money of people. “The court fee is also refunded when they settle their case in lok adalat,” he added.

1,903 cases settled

Phagwara, December 9

As many as 1,903 cases were settled at the National Lok Adalats held at Kapurthala, Phagwara and Sultanpur Lodhi. Over 3,990 cases were taken up by 16 benches, including subdivisions, were constituted by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). The cases related to criminal compoundable offences, bank recovery, motor accidental claim, matrimonial dispute, labour dispute, land acquisition cases, electricity and water bills (excluding theft cases), service matters related to pay and allowances and retiral benefits, revenue cases, civil cases among others were taken up. — OC
