JALANDHAR: As many as 197 candidates withdrew their nominations from the municipal elections today.

As many as 197 candidates withdrew their nominations from the municipal elections today. With this, only 453 candidates are left in the poll fray. A total of 689 candidates had filed their nominations for these polls.

A spokesperson of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer Jalandhar said that out of the 434 candidates who had filed papers for Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, the nominations of 13 were rejected yesterday. A total of 116 candidates withdrew their candidature today, leaving 305 candidates in the poll fray.

Similarly, 68 candidates had filed nominations for MC Bhogpur, out of which candidature of one person was rejected yesterday, whereas 33 withdrew their candidature today, thereby leaving 34 candidates in the poll fray. Likewise, 58 candidates had filed nominations for MC Goraya, out of which candidature of 12 was rejected yesterday and seven withdrew their candidature today, leaving 39 candidates in the poll fray.

Similarly, 65 candidates had filed nominations for Nagar Panchaya Shahkot, out of which 28 withdrew their candidature today, thereby leaving 37 candidates in poll fray. Similarly, 64 candidates had filed nominations for Nagar Panchaya Bilga, out of which candidature of 13 were rejected and 13 withdrew their candidature today, thereby leaving 38 candidates in the poll fray.
