Gearing up to save people from the clutches of unauthorised travel agents, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the authorities concerned to upload the name of 240 registered travel agents on the official website of the district administration.
Sharma said mounting cases of duping of innocent people by unauthorised travel agents were bringing a bad name to the country across the globe. He said to check such frivolous practice, the state government had asked the district administration to prepare a list of registered travel agents after calling in applications from the quarters concerned. The Deputy Commissioner said after the scrutiny of applications, the administration had finalised the name of 240 travel agents which had been registered by it as travel agents, ticketing agents and consultancy firms.
The DC said the names of the registered travel agents would be uploaded on the official website of the administration viz. jalandhar.nic.in. He said people who wanted to visit abroad should visit the website and contact the registered travel agents. The DC categorically said the move was aimed at checking the exploitation of people from the hands of the unauthorised travel agents. He cautioned the people that visiting any other travel agent, who has not been registered by the administration, could prove harmful for them. ADC Gurmeet Singh and Asst Commissioner (general) Ankur Mahendru were also present.
