Jalandhar, January 15
Demanding the expulsion of Gurbinder Singh Atwal for “engaging in anti-party activities”, former minister Amarjit Singh Samra today held a press conference here today.
Samra said he was surprised that Atwal was given a ticket from Bholath instead of being expelled, especially since there had been recommendations from former PPCC chief Partap Bajwa and other senior leaders. “There had been allegations against him for siding with the Akalis in the last elections. But the party went ahead to give him ticket from Bholath. We thought that he had gone away, but now he has refused to contest from there and is back seeking ticket from Nakodar. We will not let this happen. The party can field any other candidate but not him from the seat,” he announced as there is speculation that Jagbir Brar may decline to contest from Nakodar with Pargat getting the Jalandhar Cantonment seat.
Samra also announced the re-joining of Kewal Singh Takhar in the Congress. Takhar had joined the AAP, but now he is back, said Samra.
