Annual fete

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), Jalandhar, organised its annual fete ‘KMV Carnival to provide a welcome break from the academic routine. Chief guests Chander Mohan, president, Arya Shiksha Mandal and Neerja Chander Mohan, member, KMV managing committee, were accorded floral felicitations by the principal, Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Around 40 stalls were donned up with delicacies and hand-made articles by students of various departments. Dance and DJ added to the overall ambience of the day. Students danced to the numbers sung by a band of popular Punjabi singers comprising Rupali, Jaggi Jallowal, Preet Boparai, Sai Sultan and Manna Dhillon. A small enactment on ‘women empowerment’ was also performed by students of the women studies centre. The event concluded with a lucky draw. Members of the KMV managing committee Dr Satpal Gupta and Dr Suresh Seth gave away the prizes to the winners. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the organising team.

Poetry symposium

The department of Hindi organised a poetry symposium under ‘Hindi Sahitya Sarita’ at BD Arya Girls College, Jalandhar Cantt. Dr Kirti Kesar, Sushma Gupta, Hindi officer, Doordarshan, Jalandhar and Dr Anjana, Head, Hindi department, Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, enthralled the audience by reciting poems on the shrivelling of human relationships in the contemporary society. Dr Meenu Nanda, Monika Maini and Baljinder Kaur also presented self-composed poems. The principal, Dr Sarita Verma, applauded the efforts of the Hindi department and exhorted students to cultivate a taste for poetry, which is a subtle medium for the articulation of finest human emotions.

Star College status

The Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, has been conferred with the ‘Star College Status’ by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi. The status has been conferred on the Department of Sciences of the college. Principal Dr Kiran Walia said the science department had received a grant of Rs 70 lakh for a period of three years. “We are thankful to the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, for the honour. The sum has been sanctioned to strengthen the science department and its courses,” she said. She congratulated Dr Vanita Chahal, co-ordinator of the Star College Scheme and the staff of the science department.

Placement drive

Cardioabs India Private Ltd visited the St Soldier Management and Technical Institute for a placement drive. Out of 142 participants, 38 students were shortlisted by the company at the package of 3.6 lakh per annum for the post of sales executive in the marketing and HR executive. Students were shortlisted through group discussion and personal interview. Managing Director Manhar Arora congratulated students. Sanjiv Erry, director, placements, and Raman Gautam, HoD, management, thanked company officials Balwinder Singh, regional manager, and Devender Saini, service manager. Principal Dr RK Pushkarna also gave his wishes to students.

Science city trip

A science city trip was organised for students of DIPS Blooming Dales. Principal Surinderpreet Kaur and staff members also took part. Students got the knowledge of different equipments, structures, models and science subject. Students were shown different movies in which they gained knowledge on how to save the earth and environment. —TNS
