Aussie prof guides students in innovation, product design

Hoshiarpur, June 15

Professor Christopher Berndt from Swinburne University of Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences, IRIS, Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia, visited the University Institute of Engg and Technology (UIET), Panjab University Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre at Hoshiarpur.

The objective of the visit was to guide students in innovation and product design. Panjab University, Chandigarh, has introduced a new subject of innovation and product design in the field of Engineering for the students of first year.

The students in their interdisciplinary groups were encouraged to design innovative projects during vacations. The facilities required for the same will be provided free of cost.

Prof Christopher Berndt talked about the innovation and innovative ideas. He discussed in detail the idea behind the projects made by the students and appreciated the efforts of the Panjab University, in general, and UIET, PUSSGRC, in particular.

Prof HS Bains, Dean, Faculty of Engg and Technology and Director Professor, PUSSGRC, Hoshiarpur, talked about his own experience in the “Ideas Lab” at University of Alto, Finland, where anyone having innovative ideas provided facilities to give it a practical shape and the efforts made to commercialise the idea.
