Banks asked to help govt in welfare shemes

JALANDHAR: Jalandhar Assistant Commissioner Dr Ankur Mahendru today asked the banking institutions to play a proactive role for ensuring the welfare of weaker and underprivileged sections of the society.

Jalandhar Assistant Commissioner Dr Ankur Mahendru today asked the banking institutions to play a proactive role for ensuring the welfare of weaker and underprivileged sections of the society.

Addressing members of the banking community while presiding over a meeting of district consultative committee, which is also the district-level review committee at the District Administrative Complex here today, Dr Mahendru said the banks must ensure 100 per cent achievement of targets set under various schemes.

The Assistant Commissioner said the banks must try to achieve these targets in a time bound manner so that the benefits of these schemes could be disbursed to people. He underlined the need for sanctioning more loans under the Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) to supplement the income of farmers and also laid thrust to expand institutional credit flow to cater housing needs of the urban poor, especially under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna.

He asked bankers to motivate public to adopt digital payments mode like Bhim app, m-banking, e-banking.
