JALANDHAR: To give right shape to the future of the students of matric class X, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma yesterday announced that district administration would organise (Sports and Career Awareness Festival) SPARK Mela 2017 at Guru Gobind Singh stadium on December 20-21.

To give right shape to the future of the students of matric class X, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma yesterday announced that district administration would organise (Sports and Career Awareness Festival) SPARK Mela 2017 at Guru Gobind Singh stadium on December 20-21.

Presiding over a meeting to review the arrangements for the mega event, the Deputy Commissioner said that the basic idea behind organising the event was to groom the students for a better future. He said that most students face a major dilemma of selecting a right career after matriculation. The mela would give a right direction to the students who are on the crossroads for choosing one stream or the other as their profession.

The DC categorically said that the students were the most valuable asset of the country and should be groomed in such a way that they contribute immensely in the socio-economic growth of the nation. This mela would act as a catalyst in this direction. The students are largely not aware of the field of their interest due to which most of them are in disarray.

This counseling mela would certainly provide requisite support and logistics to the students for choosing their career in a better manner. He said that today the students were very fortunate as the government was helping them to choose their careers through such sessions. Sharma exhorted the students must avail the benefits of such sessions to carve a niche for themselves in life.

several experts from different fields would address the students to give career related guidance to them. He also said that stalls would be installed by the educational institutions, which would advise the students on this matter.

Prominent among these present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioners Dr Bhupinder Pal Singh and Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Amrit Singh, Paramvir Singh, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Navneet Kaur Bal and Rajiv Verma, Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jasbir Singh, Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Darbara Singh , Assistant Commissioners Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon and Deepak Bhatia, District Guidance Counselor Surjit Lal, Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Manmohan Singh, District Sports Officer Vijay Kumar, District Defence Services Welfare Officer Major Yashpaul Singh (retd) among others.
