JALANDHAR: Senior Adviser to Chief Minister, Lieutenant-General TS Shergill (retd) today called upon the Guardians of Governance (GoGs) to ensure participation of like-minded people for bringing the much needed social transformation in the state through effective implementation of policies.

Senior Adviser to Chief Minister, Lieutenant-General TS Shergill (retd) today called upon the Guardians of Governance (GoGs) to ensure participation of like-minded people for bringing the much needed social transformation in the state through effective implementation of policies.

Interacting with the GoGs here during a review meeting, he said these people, who were the eyes and ears of the state government, should engage more and more youths to ensure that government policies were implemented in right direction.

He said this would help in ushering in an era of social revolution, which would make Punjab a front-runner state in the country. The adviser said it was the need of hour to ensure that needy and underprivileged strata of society benefited from the government schemes.

Shergill said GoGs were not associated with any political party, but were working for realising the dream of Captain Amarinder Singh for the prosperity of Punjab.

He said more people should be involved in this process by the GoGs to make the drive a mass movement for the effective implementation of government schemes.

Shergill also asked the GoGs to submit accurate, unbiased and error free reports pertaining to the government schemes. He said the Chief Minister was himself monitoring this flagship scheme so the report presented by the GoGs was up to the mark. He added that the CM has put a has a huge responsibility on shoulders of every ex-serviceman by initiating this unprecedented scheme and all of them should make concerted efforts to ensure its huge success.

Giving fresh set of directions to the GoGs, the Senior Adviser said besides keeping an eye on the implementation of various government schemes the ex-servicemen should also have the information regarding illegal sand mining, drug peddling and others to ensure that the state was free from these maladies. He said as eyes and ears of the state government GoGs should remain updated on every matter concerning the villages allotted to them.

Vice-Chairman of the GoG project, Major-General SPS Grewal said the basic aim of the scheme was to ensure the optimum utilisation of funds, benefit of the government schemes to all eligible beneficiaries and eliminate corruption from the system. He said this was the first of its kind project, which could be replicated all the over the country after its success in the state as the ex-servicemen were blessed with great qualities like honesty, dedication and hard work which was required to implement pro-people and development-oriented policies in the right earnest.

On the occasion, Sub-Divisional Magistrates Amrit Singh, Paramveer Singh and Navneet Kaur Bal, Assistant Superintendent of Police Shahkot Sandeep Malik and others, were also present on the occasion. — TNS
