Jalandhar, March 23
With an aim to wiping out illegal drug trade from the city and surrounding areas, the Jalandhar Police today started a campaign equipped with a multi-pronged strategy.
The police have chalked out a strategy in this regard.
Police officials said the problem of drugs would be tackled on two fronts.
The first is to reduce the demand of drugs in society through awareness campaigns.
The second is to reduce the supply of drugs by enforcement.
In awareness campaigns, the police have planned to educate the youth about the ill-effects of drugs. For this, they will organise seminar in schoolsand colleges and roads shows and street plays will be held.
The police have also committed to providing every sort of help to rehabilitate the drug addicts.
To reduce the drug supply, the police will prepare the list of the drug peddlers having more than two FIRs registered against them in the past 10 years. These people will be kept under surveillance. Irrespective of the amount of the drugs recovered, every drug trafficker will be interrogated by a gazetted officer (GO) to make a chain and reach the supplier.
The Jalandhar police have also planned to reward the police officials who catch drugs of commercial quantity.
