To spread awareness among school students for Classes X, XI and XII regarding higher education, Deputy Commissioner KK Yadav today flagged off a vehicle from the RUDSET institution here today. The awareness initiative has been started by the district administration, in conjunction with the CT Group of Institutions.

The DC said the van would go to rural areas of the city and spread awareness regarding various streams and courses for Classes X and XII. In total, three vans will be flagged off in the district. The second van will be flagged off on Friday.

The Deputy Commissioner also said a teacher for career counselling will also stay with the van from whom students or parents can ask about the admission process in various courses of their interest. Yadav said if school students keep getting information about their areas of interest in higher education and about various courses, then they can touch new heights in any field. District Guidance Counsellor Surjit Lal, DIO Amolak Singh Kalsi, RUDSET director Jagdish Kumar were present on the occasion.

The vans shall be equipped with a public address system – with a teacher on board to inform about career counselling to students. These will travel across urban and rural schools of the district and will also carry literature and documents apprising students of various career options they can opt for once they pass out of school.

While the district has also held several SPARC career fairs to spread awareness on the issue, starting with these two vans now, the administration might also expand the vehicles put into service to spread career awareness in the subsequent days.

District Guidance Counsellor Surjit Lal said, “The van traversed the Basti area schools in Basti Mitthu, Basti Gujan among other areas today. Tomorrow, it will be visiting various rural areas of the district. All villages of the district will be covered under the initiative. The staff deputed during the drive will be on a rotational basis with teachers from respective villages, depending on which area the vehicle visits.”
