Residents of Shivpuri Mohalla along with a dowry victim, Gurdeep Kaur, and her father Tersem Lal, today staged a dharna before the SP Office demanding to book in-laws of the victim.

The victim said she was married to a Spain-based NRI, Jagtar Ram of Beesla village in Nawanshahr on February 17 in 2012 and had a two-year-old daughter. She said her husband returned to Spain after one month of marriage and her in-laws started torturing her physically and mentally, demanding more dowry. She also alleged that her husband took Rs 5 lakh from her parents last year on the pretext of taking her to Spain. She alleged that her in-laws were demanding a car and a great sum of money as dowry. The dharna was lifted after the intervention of Senior Superintendent of Police Harwinder Sandhu and Deputy Superintendent of Police Dev Dutt Sharma who assured the protesters to book Gurdeep’s in-laws under the Dowry Act.
