Farm workers to protest tomorrow

Thousands of farmers, youths, students, labourers, and women from Doaba and Majha regions will participate in a rally against the black laws on February 16 and 17 at Barnala. The rally will be organised by the Common Co-operation Front.

Representatives of the common co-operation front — Darshan Nahar, Kashmir Singh Ghugshore, Harmesh Malri, Paramajit Singh, Mohan Singh and Veer Kumar— who gathered at the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall today, said the joint front which was made with the conjunction of more than 60 groups, would hold the rally against the Prevention of Damage to Public and Private Property Act and against the proposed PCOCA Act.

They said the preparations regarding the same had been made. Capitalist directions and privatisation policies were affecting the employment. Inflation has been touching the sky while radical and fascist powers were enjoying the patronage of the government bodies, they added.

The state government had gone back on the promises made to people during the elections, they said.

The leaders said the government had imposed Section 144 in Jalandhar and Ludhiana and in other districts.

They condemned the recent filing of false cases against activists. Activists called farm and labourer rights activists to participate in the protests to be held in front of PIMS at the PUDA Ground on February 17.
