Five kg opium seized, 2 held

JALANDHAR: The Jalandhar Rural Police today claimed to have busted a gang of drug peddlers by arresting two members of the gang.

The Jalandhar Rural Police today claimed to have busted a gang of drug peddlers by arresting two members of the gang. The police also recovered more than 5 kg of opium from their possession.

The accused were identified as Bablu Kumar, alias Lohar, and Surinder Vishawkarma, alias Baba, residents of Jharkhand.

Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SSP, said the accused had been smuggling opium from Jharkhand to Punjab to sell it in areas close to Jalandhar.

He said the police would investigate the matter to track the entire chain. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act.

Bhullar said in the past five days, the police had registered 25 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 26 accused.
