Speaking at the annual day function of Sainik School, Kapurthala, Punjab Governor, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, today said Sainik Schools emerged in India as the feeder institutions of defence to serve the motherland.
Congratulating those, who had been associated with the school for working with commitment and imparting education to its students, Prof Solanki said the school was doing yeomen service by inculcating qualities such as self-belief, self-dependent, sound character, team spirit, dedication to purpose, a patriotic outlook and the desire to serve the country. “Above all it helps students to develop holistic approach towards their life and to enable them join armed forces,” he added.
The Governor said, “Education is the foundation for all growth and development. In today’s context, education should teach about different aspects of human history.” He said, “It should acquaint them with the marvels of science and technology, with its immense capacity to transform human lives, with a view to encourage them to develop a scientific temper.”
Describing students as future of the nation, the Governor said, “I am confident that many of you, keeping in tradition of Sainik Schools, will join the armed forces.”
Appreciating the achievements of the school, Prof Solanki said Sainik School, Kapurthala, had a glorious past with a commendable record of producing more than 750 distinguished officers for the armed forces. He said its alumni had risen to senior ranks and brought laurels by their achievements in variegated fields.
Principal, Group Capt Shakti Sharma, Vice-Principal, Lt-Col Smita Misra and administrative officer, Lt-Cdr Amit Kumar Dutt were also present on the occasion.
