The Department of Student welfare and PG Department of English organized en event to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV) here on Tuesday. Students with painted faces and masks held placards and chanted slogans that it is the high time that they should start taking initiatives for protecting the environment. Thereafter, a street play portraying the same theme was presented by students. Many students expressed their views through speeches and poems. Later, they pinned batches on teachers and student conveying the message of saving environment and celebrating eco-friendly Diwali.
Book exhibition
A two-day book exhibition organised by Lajpat Rai Library of DAV College, Jalandhar, concluded on Tuesday. The exhibition was inaugurated by Justice NK Sood, chairman of the college’s Local Advisory Committee; Dr SK Arora, principal of DAV College; and librarian Naveen Saini. Books based on all kinds of topics were exhibited on the occasion. At the exhibition, different booksellers participated. These booksellers brought books of many publications with them. These books were in Hindi and English, said librarian Naveen Saini. Various students participated in the book exhibition. They also bought many books. A student of the college, who was looking for a book, said, “This book exhibition is very good. It’s great to be here. There are some books that bookshops do not have. I have bought “Research Methods” by Cooper.
Spectrum 2017
The Mendeleev Society of Chemistry, Lyallpur Khalsa College, on Tuesday organised an inter-college competition — Spectrum-2017 — to celebrate the festival season. He encouraged the participants for bringing out their best talents. The rangoli competition on the theme of depicting any festival was won by the team of BD Arya College. The collage-making competition on the topic child abuse was won by Mansi of Lyallpur Khalsa College. The first position in the flower arrangement competition was bagged by Shanti of KMV Jalandhar. The pot decoration competition was won by Akshi of the Kamla Nehru College for Women. The best Pooja-Thaali was decorated by Aditi of the Lyallpur Kalsa College of Education for Women. The card-making competition was won by Anshu Kumari of KMV Jalandhar. The first position in the best-out-of-waste competition was won by Jatinder Kaur of the KCL Institute of Management and Technology. A total of 11 colleges participated in the event. As many as 165 participants exhibited their talent and brought their creative ideas to reality.
