Members of the Bar Association, Phagwara, led by its president Lokesh Narang on Thursday observed an on-job strike in protest against the decision of setting up family courts at the district headquarters. Advocate Lalit Chopra said now the victims of domestic violence, dowry and other matrimonial disputes would have to go to the district headquarters to get justice.

Demand for flights

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has urged the Union and state governments to resume non-stop international Air India flights from Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport to San Francisco, London, Birmingham, Milan, Vancouver, Toronto, besides other destinations.

NAPA executive director Satnam Singh Chahal in a press release issued on Thursday said that privatising of the Delhi airport has resulted in the ‘hub and spoke’ policy adopted by the government. This policy benefits the Delhi Airport and is suicidal to the other international airports in the country, especially the Amritsar airport which generates more international traffic compared to domestic.
