Life term for rapist father

HOSHIARPUR: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood convicted Balkar Singh, son of Baldev Singh and a resident of Barota in Mukerian sub-division, for raping his daughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000.

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood convicted Balkar Singh, son of Baldev Singh and a resident of Barota in Mukerian sub-division, for raping his daughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000.

Out of the fine amount, Rs 20,000 have been ordered to be given to the victim. In case of not paying the penalty, Balkar Singh will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of three months.

On August 2, 2016, the victim had lodged a complaint with the Mukerian police. She had told the police that she was 10 years old and was studying in the fourth house. Her parents were divorced two years ago and she was living with her father. She told the police that her father often came home drunk and used to take her to the tubewell room in farmland.

There he used to molest her daily and also threatened her if she exposed him. The victim told her school teacher and aunt about the matter.

After this, cops were told about the entire case. The police got an investigation conducted by ASI Anita Devi against the accused and filed an FIR against him under Sections 376, 377, 366 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, leading to his arrest and sentencing today. — OC
