LPU official booked for fraud

Phagwara: An official of Lovely Professional University (LPU) has been booked for duping the varsity of lakhs of rupees. Sunil Kumar, senior security officer of the university, complained that Sahil Kumar, deputy officer, governance, LPU, took away lakhs of rupees from the university for booking air tickets for students. The fraud came to light when the travel agencies sent bills worth lakhs of rupees to the LPU for payment. A case under Sections 408 and 420 of the IPC has been registered. OC

Motorcycle stolen

Phagwara: A motorcycle parked in front of Virk Hospital here was stolen Tuesday night. Balwant Rai, a resident of Mansa Devi Nagar, Phagwara, had gone to the hospital for some work. When he returned to the bike after some time, he found the bike missing. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the culprits, the police said.
