Jalandhar, February 15
Tragedy struck a Ludhiana resident today as his car met with an accident in Jalandhar. He died on the spot. He was on his way to the Amritsar international airport to receive his mother and wife.
According to investigating officer Atamjit Singh, the victim, Jagdip Singh, a resident of Bhai Randheer Singh Nagar in Ludhiana, was going in his car (bearing registration No. PB10 EC 3628) to pick up his mother Balwinder Kaur and wife Harjot Kaur from the Amritsar airport. He was accompanied by his father-in-law Jagdev Singh, who was travelling in a separate car. Harjot and Balwinder Kaur were returning from England after spending two months with Jagdip’s elder brother Amandeep Singh.
Jagdev Singh, who was a witness to the incident, said Jagdip was travelling alone in the car when the driver of a container truck (bearing registration No. PB10 CM 4731) applied sudden brakes near Liddran.
As a result, Jagdip’s car rammed into the truck from the rear side and he suffered fatal injuries. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, where he was declared brought dead.
Though the police have impounded the truck, the driver fled the spot after the incident. A case under Sections 304 A and 427 of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
Later, the police handed over the body to the victim’s family after autopsy.
