Phagwara
The Goraya police have arrested a person, identified as Gurdip Singh of Lehal Dhogrra village, Dasuya, and recovered two stolen motor cycles, one Activa scootor and 12,500 ml of liquor from his possession. The arrest was made near Dhesian village, near Goraya, on Thursday, the police said. – OC
SSP's visit
Newly appointed Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, Alka Meena on Thursday visited Phagwara. She oversaw few sensitive and important places, held meetings with police officers and also interacted with the media. She instructed the police to ensure free, fair and transparent polling, and not to leave any stone unturned to maintain the law and order. SSP Alka Meena said though one company of CRPF had been deployed in Phagwara, six companies of CRPF have been sought which could be sent to the town soon to maintain law and order during poll process.
National Youth Day celebrated
National Youth Day was celebrated by the history department of the Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, on the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Kamlesh, Head of the department, congratulated students on the occasion. Principal Dr Kiran Walia motivated students to follow the path of morality, spirituality and nationalism as directed by Swami Vivekananda. The All India Consumers Panchayat, Phagwara, also celebrated National Youth Day on Thursday. State organisational secretary Surinder Mittal was the chief guest in the function. He described Swami Vivekanand as the epitome of the Indian culture.
