Meat shops challaned for unhygienic conditions

NAWANSHAHAR: The food safety wing Nawanshahr inspected and challaned as many as eight meat outlets situated at sabzi mandi, Banga Road and Karyam Road, Nawanshahr.

The food safety wing Nawanshahr inspected and challaned as many as eight meat outlets situated at sabzi mandi, Banga Road and Karyam Road, Nawanshahr. 

The team comprising Assistant Commissioner Food Manoj Khosla, Food Safety officer Sangeeta Sehdev, Health Inspector Sulinder Kumar, during inspections found the conditions of the shops quite unhygienic.

They were directed to get food safety registration in compliance of conditions of Food Safety Act. 

Khosla said the method of slaughtering the animal should be mentioned in the shop. "The premises should be hygienic and the sanitary conditions should be maintained, shops should have proper arrangements of hot water and fly catchers to keep the area fly proof. Proper pest control measures should also be taken. The door of the shop should have a black film, walls and floor should be crack free. Medical fitness certificate of all workers handling meat should be kept as record. Ensuring  personal hygiene of the workers is also mandatory. Dustbins should be clean, properly covered. Storage conditions should be well maintained by installing refrigerator in the shop," the officer informed. 

Food Safety Officer Sangeeta Sehdev said strict action would be taken against the errant shopkeepers.
