Phillaur, June 26

Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary of the Congress today visited the Civil Hospital at Phillaur and met diarrhoea patients admitted there. The MP also visited the affected localities.

Chaudhary’s visit comes in the wake of the death of a Phillaur resident Sudesh Rani in the diarrhoea outbreak that has taken place in ward numbers 9 and 10.

The MP urged the state government to set up a high-level magisterial inquiry to find out the negligence on the part of the authorities concerned.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary, who later met members of the general public, said poor sanitation and contaminated water supply seemed to be the root cause behind the problem. He said time-bound magisterial inquiry, by an official not less in rank than an SDM, would pinpoint the responsibility of the

errant officials.

He also visited the tube well and inspected the water supply lines. The MP also instructed to undertake the technical inspection of the entire water supply lines and ensure proper chlorination of drinking water to provide immediate relief. In addition to ensuring 24-hour medical relief, a special meeting was also organised with the medical team at the Civil Hospital. Professional medical teams were requisitioned from Chandigarh to undertake door to door survey, educate people and provide medical first aid kits (antibiotics and ORS packets).
